How healthy is your mouth? How do you know how healthy your mouth is? What do you need to do to make sure your mouth is healthy? Does it even matter? Well, yes it does. The health of your mouth not only affects your teeth but it is also directly related to the health of the rest of your body.

That’s because we believe that knowledge is power and that the more you know, the more likely you are to take good care of your teeth, gums and mouth. How do you get teeth for life?

Taking good care of your teeth requires a little bit of discipline twice a day for a few minutes. You start by brushing your teeth with a fluoride toothpaste, and we can teach you the best way to do this. Your aim to remove the plaque that has built up in your mouth since your last brush. If you have been eating a lot of sugar, there will be more plaque. Good brush skills, whether electric or manual brushes are used, will mean you get right to the plaque and get rid of it.

You also need to floss or use interdental brushes between your teeth where plaque cannot be reached by your brush, and also where food can get trapped and start to decay.

The other important aspect of oral health is coming to us for bi-annual check-ups and deep cleans with the dental hygienists. We can spot problems before they get serious and we can also remove any plaque that has been missed and hardened into calculus, which brushes cannot shift
